The Office of the County Recorder was created by the First
Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Iowa in 1839. Your County Recorder
maintains official records of documents affecting real estate in order to
protect innocent third parties in real estate transactions.
The County Recorder's Office is at the hub of the courthouse function to serve
you. A significant portion of the duties performed by other county officials is
dependent on the work performed by your County Recorder.
Iowa's County Recorders are proud of their tradition and looking forward to the
future.
Duties:

Records all instruments which maybe filed for records consisting
principally of deeds, contracts, leases, easements, plats & surveys,
mortgages, mortgage releases & assignments, affidavits, federal & state
tax liens, military service records, trade names and agreements in
addition to numerous other documents |

Sells hunting, fishing & fur harvester licenses as well as deer &
wild turkey licenses, also habitat, migratory birds & trout fees |
 |
Registers/titles boats, snowmobiles & ATVs (Additional information
can be found on the Iowa DNR website.) |

Registers birth, death & marriage certificates
Issues certified copies |
 |
Reports quarterly to Board of Supervisors all fees collected, paying
same to County Treasurer |
 |
Issues real estate transfer stamps |
 |
Acceptance agent for passport service |
